Wyoming Mustang Days FAQ

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers! Mustang Days is just a few days away and our team is wrapping up final prep to make sure you and your horse have a great time in the show ring. Many of us will be showing our mustangs and burros right along side you on Saturday, so we share your desire to have as much information before you arrive as possible.

Let us address some common FAQs about Wyoming Mustang Days:

Q: Where is the show located?

A: The show is held at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas, WY during the state fair at 400 W Center, Douglas, WY 82633. Classes will be held in the Pepsi Equine Center which can be found on the fairgrounds map.

Q: When is the show?

A: The show is Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Q: When is check in?

A: Check in begins between 7:30-8am and opening ceremonies will begin between 8:30-9am.

Q: Are stalls available?

A: YES! Stalls are available through the Wyoming State Fair for a small fee. You can check in and rent a stall at the Horse Show Office which is just outside the equine center and can also found on the fairgrounds map.

Q: Where/how do I sign up?

A: If you like to get a jump on things, you can use our handy online form to sign up for your classes. If you prefer, sign up sheets will be available at check in on Saturday morning and throughout the show.

Q: How much are classes?

A: Classes are $6 for non-members and $4.50 for Wyoming Mustang Association members. If you would like to become a member, you can sign up online by clicking here.

Q: If I am showing in the Green Horse division, can I also show the same horse in another division?

A: No. The Green Horse division is the only division that does not allow cross entering among the different divisions. You are welcome to show another horse in other divisions however and can find the full show rules in our prize list.

Q: How does the Tri-State Competition work?

A: Good question! The Tri-State Competition was reinstated this year by the BLM and keeps track of points from 5 classes (Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Trail, Barrels and Poles) in 4 divisions (Adult, Senior Youth, Junior Youth and Novice) from 3 shows (Utah Wild Horse and Burro Festival, Colorado Wild Horse and Burro Festival and Wyoming Mustang Days). The horse and rider combination within each division with the highest amount of points from these 3 shows will be crowned Tri-State Champion at Wyoming Mustang Days! You can find out more about the Tri-State Competition by viewing the rule book.

Q: Did I have to attend the other two shows to be eligible for the Tri-State Competition?

A: NO! The points are accumulated throughout all 3 shows but you did not need to attend each of the other shows to be eligible to win the championship. So, if you are showing in one of the eligible divisions at Wyoming Mustang Days, we highly encourage you to let us know to count your points from this show! Who knows, you might just be the next Tri-State Champion!

Q: Is there camping available?

A: Yes, camping spots are available through the Wyoming State Fair and more info can be found on their website by clicking here.

Q: I am riding in the Freestyle class, how do I get my music to you?

A: You can provide a CD or a jump drive with your music on it to the representatives at check in on Saturday.

Q: How does the Team Sorting class work?

A: Team sorting will be the very last class of the day, just after the awards ceremony. Each rider is allowed to enter the class twice (on two different teams), the class fee is $10 per rider/per entry (i.e. if you enter twice, your fees for the class will be $20), and the class is a JACKPOT. The winning team will take home 50% of the class fees!

Q: Do you need volunteers?

A: Yes! We are a small group and need all the help we can get! If you are interested in volunteering throughout the day, please let a WMA representative know.

Q: What divisions will have a high point award?

A: We will be awarding high point for each division: Senior Youth, Junior Youth, Adult, Novice and Green Horse. The classes without an * on the class list (in the prize list/rule book) will count toward the high point award.

Q: Will there be concessions available?

A: Yes, there will be a concession stand available in the arena that will offer food options throughout the day.

New Association, New Mission.

We’re all from different backgrounds. We have different goals and different styles. But we all have one thing in common; we love our wild horses.

We believe they’re every bit as capable as the domestic breeds, and should be celebrated for their abilities, wits and stamina. Evolution has suited them for a variety of tasks and their versatility is simply unmatched.

Wyoming Mustang Days has always been an event centered around showcasing that versatility and its popularity has grown immensely in recent years. In May of 2018, a new association formed to promote and manage Wyoming Mustang Days and expand on the popularity of the event.

The Wyoming Mustang Association is a membership driven community that will host clinics, competitions, trail rides and other events throughout the year, allowing mustang owners from Wyoming and throughout the country a platform to enhance and exhibit their horse’s abilities.  Affordable, yearly memberships provide the organization with funding to host these events and the member with discounted entry fees and association gear!
